Umbilical Cell Therapy

FAQ’s on Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Therapy

What is stem cell therapy with umbilical cord tissue?

Umbilical cord cell therapy has been an amazing procedure performed at R3 Stem Cell Centers of Excellence. The umbilical cord tissue along with the surrounding components (amniotic fluid, placenta, Wharton’s Jelly) is a fabulous source of regenerative cells. The material is obtained from live consenting donors after a scheduled c-section with no harm to either the mother or the baby.

R3 offers joint injection procedures with 10 million stem cells for only $2495. Two joints is only $3995!

In reality, the umbilical cord tissue and Wharton’s Jelly are the sources of very active stem cells and other regenerative components such as growth factors, exosomes, cytokines and secretomes. When umbilical cord tissue is processed properly and used on patients with the R3 protocols, the results have been tremendous for the relief of joint pain.

R3’s Centers have performed over 21,000 procedures to date, with very high outcomes combined with extremely low risks. The procedures are performed under IRB Approved Protocols (Institutional Review Board) and are administered mostly through joint and soft tissue injections.

Where does it come from?

The material is obtained from live consenting donors after a scheduled c-section with no harm to either the mother or the baby. The labs that R3 works with maintain control of the entire process and have agreements with local hospitals and OB doctors so strict quality assurance is in place.

Also, the donors are screened heavily and consented. During a normal scheduled c-section, the products of conception are discarded. In this case, the amniotic fluid, placenta, umbilical cord, and Wharton’s Jelly go into a sterile container and right to an FDA Registered lab for processing.

What’s in it?

The term “umbilical cord tissue” with our products is actually a catch all, as there are quite a few additional components involved. These include the umbilical cord tissue, umbilical cord blood, Wharton’s Jelly, amniotic fluid and placental tissue.

Contrary to what the competitors of umbilical cord cell therapy say, there are actually millions of regenerative cells in the biologic (we offer 10 million stem cells per joint injection). These include stem cells, growth factors, exosomes, secretomes, microRNA, cytokines and exokines. These cells work in concert with each other to not only repair and regenerate tissue damage in the body, but also to facilitate one’s own body to achieve enhanced regeneration and repair!

How is it regulated by the FDA?

The FDA regulates biologics in a separate category than “drugs”. They do not go through a clinical trial like drugs do. The way the FDA regulates biologics starts at the laboratory level.

Labs get inspected by the FDA and once approved, they are able to start processing biologics. The processing regulations are very strict and were put in place a long time ago to ensure they are safe for patient use.

When patients ask us, “Are the stem cell biologics FDA Approved?”, the answer is no. They are not regulated as drugs, so their regulations fall under the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 1271. So the biologics themselves cannot be approved or denied.

Having stated that, some of the biologics that R3 uses have an approved IND from the FDA as well.

How is it administered?

R3 Stem Cell Centers of Excellence have performed close to 21,000 procedures in the past ten years. During that time, R3 has received IRB Approval on four stem cell procedure options.

These include the following:

  1. Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Injections
  2. Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Intranasal Procedure
  3. Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Intravenous Procedure
  4. Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Nebulizer Procedure

With regards to the mechanism of how each patient’s procedure will be performed, it is depending on the condition(s) the person has along with the severity. There is not a “one size fits all” approach at the R3 Centers, which is a shortcoming at most other places. Most regenerative Centers in the US do NOT have the experience and knowledge base to understand what will work best for most patients.

What are the risks?

Thankfully, umbilical cord stem cell therapy at R3 Centers of Excellence has been extremely safe. This has been a result of several things.

One is the quality of our biologics being used. The umbilical cord tissue comes from an FDA Registered lab that has been in existence for 15 years. During that time, there have been NO adverse events or significant complications.

In addition, we have excellent quality control measures in place for delivery and storage of the biologics.

All of the providers administering the procedures are licensed, knowledgeable, compassionate providers who have an excellent skill set and training for what they are doing. The procedures are performed using sterile technique.

What conditions see improvements with the procedures?

In R3’s experience and the existing peer reviewed literature, there are MANY conditions that may benefit from stem cell therapy using umbilical cord tissue.

These may include orthopedic, neurologic, urologic, autoimmune, cardiac, kidney, pulmonary and ophthalmologic conditions. R3 offers injections for orthopedic conditions in the USA and more intricate treatments at several R3 Stem Cell International Centers.

Is there any insurance coverage?

For the most part there is no insurance coverage. While all R3 Stem Cell Centers offer a free consultation, the regenerative biologic is not currently covered by any commercial carriers or Medicare. With our high volume and low cost of our quality biologics, R3 is able to offer joint injections with 10 million stem cells for only $2495, which is less than HALF of most other clinics!

What does umbilical cord stem cell therapy cost?

Stem cell therapy is an investment and should be looked at that way. People invest in their cars and homes frequently, but how many bodies does each person get in a lifetime?

Each R3 Stem Cell Center of Excellence offers a free initial consultation so patients can be fully evaluated and understand the available options.

Stem Cell Therapy at R3’s Centers cost $2495 for a joint injection with 10 million stem cells and only $3995 for two joints with 10 million stem cells each!

What makes stem cell therapy at R3 different than other places?

This is a critical question. Most Centers that offer stem cell therapy in the US truly have no idea of what the best biologics are, or the best protocols. They haven’t performed over 16,000 procedures worldwide!

R3’s Centers offer biologics that have a huge amount of cell activity, with verifiable third party cell counts. In addition, R3 has over 17 different protocols to optimize the outcomes.

Here’s the difference you will see at R3’s Centers:

  • Quality – biologics from first rate FDA certified labs.
  • Safety – we’ve never had a significant adverse event
  • 10 million stem cells – each patient will be able to see the Certificate of Analysis!
  • Image Guidance – for the most accurate injections possible.
  • Board Certified Providers
